September 4, Kutum — Five people from one family were killed when heavy rains swept through Kassab camp for the internally displaced in North Darfur state on Monday, spokesman for the General Coordination for the Displaced Persons, Adam Regal said.

Field teams estimated that 1,700 houses and 800 latrines were destroyed. Over 30 are reported to be injured.

The rains that fell on the Darfur regions in the past few days have caused extensive damage to citizens’ homes, farms and pastures, and have cut off roads.

Floods and heavy rains that hit various areas of North Darfur on Saturday cut off the main road linking the city of El Fasher and the Zamzam camp for the displaced. Large parts of the town of Far’ Al-Habil in East Darfur State were also flooded.
