September 4, El Fasher — Hospitals and pharmacies in El Fasher, capital of North Darfur State, are facing shortages of life-saving medicine.
A medical source in the Saudi hospital — who preferred to remain anonymous — said that patients’ health is deteriorating, particularly those with diabetes. On Tuesday, the acting governor of North Darfur, Hafez Bakhit, affirmed there is a shortage of life-saving medicines.
There have been repeated attacks on healthcare facilities in El Fasher, which have been causing the death toll in the city to rise even further. At the end of July, an attack on Saudi hospital marked the tenth time a hospital had been hit in the city since May.
In Zamzam camp for the internally displaced — located 15km south of El Fasher town — Ibrahim Suleiman told Darfur24 that he had been searching for mixed insulin for his sister who suffers from diabetes for more than two weeks but has not been able to find it, and her health is worsening.
Ibrahim said that the majority of patients now rely on local herbs for their treatments to save their lives. Around 500,000 people are at the camp which has been pushed into famine.
