August 28, Benghazi — On Thursday, the World Food Program (WFP) announced that Libyan trucks loaded with 500 tons of food left the port of Benghazi to Chad via Al-Kufra to be distributed to Sudanese refugees.

The corridor was reopened in May with an initial trial shipment. Additional shipments are expected to arrive in Libya soon.

The move also follows the conclusion of talks in Geneva this week, which were boycotted by the Sudanese army but resulted in the opening of the Adre border from Chad to deliver humanitarian aid.

In a broadcast with Darfur24 on Tuesday, U.S. Special Envoy for Sudan, Tom Perriello, said  that the diplomatic alliance formed at the Geneva talks was able to work with both parties to enable the delivery of humanitarian aid.
