Port Sudan — An informed military source told Darfur24 that seven Russian fighters arrived in Sudan last week, and were funded by a Gulf state. The army also received a shipment of Iranian “Mohajer” drones at the start of this month.
The new Russian fighters allegedly entered military operations in North Khartoum, also known as Bahri.
Talks have been held since last May about military cooperation with Russia. Yasser Al-Atta, assistant commander-in-chief of the army said that Sudan signed agreements with Russia to establish a base on the Red Sea.
On Sunday, the sovereignty council directed a review of the demarcation of the Red Sea coast.
Back in 2018 Al-Bashir’s government signed military cooperation agreements with Russia, including the establishment of a military base on the Red Sea, but the plan did not proceed.
