El Fasher — Heavy rains have destroyed 210 houses in Fata Borno IDP camp and 200 in Kassab IDP camp inside Kutum, North Darfur state, according to a statement from the General Coordination for Displaced Persons and Refugees.
“The displaced people (IDPs) are currently living in difficult humanitarian conditions without shelter, as they have resorted to living under trees in harsh and dangerous health conditions,” the statement said. They issued an urgent appeal to local and international humanitarian organizations to intervene quickly and provide the necessary assistance.
The El Fasher area has over a million civilians, many who are already displaced by the conflict and “teetering on the edge of survival,” according to Crisis Group. Back in December, it was estimated that 200,000 people across both IDP camps were at risk, according to the United Nations.
