On Thursday, the Technical Emergency Committee of the Sudan’s Ministry of Health announced the death of 31 people due to floods and rains that hit the Northern state over the past days. 179 were injured and 155 people were stung by scorpions.
The health ministry confirmed that the rains and floods hit 96 areas in the state’s localities, while 31 government facilities were damaged. Over 2,340 homes were completely destroyed and over 4,050 partially destroyed — leaving nearly 32,500 affected.
In total, almost 70 people died in heavy rains and floods across Sudan this year, according to the interior minister. The downpours are the heaviest recorded since 2019.
In the country, the season of heavy rains begins in June and lasts until October. According to the health ministry, further diseases and epidemics are expected to occur due to the rains and floods that hit the state.
