Al-Geneina, August 13(Darfur24)Security services in West Darfur State, which is under the control of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), arrested members of a network on board three cars loaded with copper that were on their way to a neighboring country.

The city of Al-Geneina has recently witnessed widespread acts of sabotage that targeted communication towers and electricity and water station cables in search of copper.

The head of the civil administration of the Rapid Support Forces in West Darfur State, Tijani Al-Tahir Karshom, said in a press statement “the regular forces were able to arrest a gang smuggling copper to neighboring countries .”

He pointed out that the network that works to smuggle copper to neighboring countries was seized with three cars loaded with copper in its possession in implementation of the decision to combat the systematic sabotage of public property.

Karshom explained that the copper trade is a major threat to electricity, communications and other services, as the Security Committee has developed a well-thought-out plan to limit vandalism of public and private property.

Unofficial estimates indicate that the quantities of copper that have been smuggled exceed hundreds of tons, as the West Darfur authorities previously announced the seizure of more than 18 tons of copper.
