Dongola, August 12(Darfur 24)The Northern State Governor, Abdeen Awad Allah, has appealed to the federal government and international organizations to urgently intervene to deal with the repercussions of floods and rains in the state.
The governor said, in a press statement after inspecting those affected by floods and rains in the areas of Tanqasiand Al-Qarir in Merowe Locality, that the state government is preparing a plan to deal with the health effects resulting from rains and floods, in addition to developing a reconstruction plan.
He pointed out that the extent of the damage caused by floods and rains exceeds the state’s capabilities, noting that a large number of citizens have been affected and that they are in urgent need of shelter.
Tangasi Al-Ruwais is considered the most affected in the Northern State, as the area was exposed to total and partial collapses in a large number of homes, and many families have become homeless, while flood waters have flooded large areas of agricultural land.
Merowe city was exposed to torrential floods in Khor Abu Dom for the second time in a week, which led to the closure of the national road opposite the entrance to the city and a second partial collapse of the bridge linking Merowe and Abu Dom on the internal road.
The areas of Wadi Al-Kari in Al-Qarir, Tanqasi Al-Souq, Al-Daym, Fatna, Al-Dabaiba and Abu Dom were exposed to heavy flows of flood waters, resulting in collapses, cracks and damage to a number of homes and farms.
