El Fasher , August 11(Darfur 24)
Cautious calm prevailed on Sunday morning in El Fasher, the provincial capital of North Darfur State, after violent battles between the army, allied armed movements on one hand , and the Rapid Support Forces RSF on the other hand.
A medical source at the Saudi Specialized Hospital in El Fasher revealed the death of 17 people and the injury of about 143 others during the battles of the conflicting parties on Saturday.
The source told “Darfur 24” that dozens are still receiving treatment in the only hospital in the city after a near-total shutdown of health centers in the neighborhoods and a severe shortage of medicines, medical supplies, and emergency equipment.
The medical source stated that most of the cases are injuries from projectiles and stray bullets.
The Saudi Specialized Hospital is the only one in the city that receives the dead and wounded, after El Fasher South Hospital went out of service due to heavy artillery shelling.
The Sudanese army’s medical corps and the police hospital only receive critical cases of civilians.
Eyewitnesses said that most of the victims were from Abshok camp for displaced persons north of the city, and the southern Al-Thawra neighborhood, Al-Radeef, Al-Inqaz, Awlad Al-Reef, Al-Darja Al-Awwal, and Al-Shorfa.
Yesterday, Saturday, the city of Al-Fasher witnessed fierce clashes between the Sudanese army, supported by the armed movements’ forces, against the Rapid Support Forces, which lasted for about 6 hours, in which heavy and light weapons were used, warplanes intervened, and artillery shelling by the Rapid Support Forces with drones.
The Rapid Support Forces are trying to control the last division of the Sudanese army in the Darfur region in the city of Al-Fasher after controlling the rest of the divisions in the Darfur states.
