Local sources in Abu Jibeiha announced that the Sudanese military intelligence released detainees who had been detained two weeks ago following protests against the deterioration of living conditions.
Two weeks ago, the citizens of Abu Jibeiha city went out in widespread protests denouncing the deterioration of living conditions due to rising prices, and they also called for an end to the war. The protests were renewed for the second time yesterday, Thursday.
Sources told Darfur24 that the security forces arrested 12 of those participating in the protests before releasing them later, indicating that the detainees were subjected to torture, the effects of which appeared on the bodies of two of them severely.
Among the detainees who were released were “Abdul Rahman Hamza Yahya, Al-Toum Hamid, Muhammad Al-Tayeb, Ali Zain Al-Din Daoud, and Ahmed Jala.”
In a related context, the sources said that the city of Abu Jbeiha witnessed a new popular movement on Thursday after two weeks of protests, as a large number of citizens gathered in front of the army and local command building since early morning, expressing their dissatisfaction with the ongoing war, rising prices, and the greed of merchants, in addition to the scarcity of fuel controlled by military intelligence.
They added that “the local authorities issued a new price for corn, where a binding price was set for merchants at 3,000 pounds per millet, and it was also agreed to allocate fuel quotas for mills and motors. These measures contributed to calming the situation relatively in the city.”
