Al-Fula, August 5(Darfur 24)
Medical sources revealed, on Monday, the spread of an infectious disease known as “blepharitis” in Abu Zabad and Al-Fula, the capital of West Kordofan State.
Doctor Rafida Abu Bakr Al-Rahima told “Darfur 24” that “blepharitis is an infectious disease that affects the eyes, as it is considered a serious health problem after it spread significantly in the city of Al-Fula and Abu Zabad.”
She pointed out that the symptoms of the disease are “blepharitis, redness, swelling and itching, in addition to the appearance of scales on the eyelashes that cause eyelid irritation and the formation of hard layers that may lead to the eyelids sticking together when waking up in the morning.”
She stressed that when these hard layers enter the eye, the person feels the presence of sand or foreign bodies in it.
She continued: “Although there is no cure for this disease, it can be treated and controlled by maintaining eyelid hygiene, as not treating blepharitis can develop into more serious conditions, such as leaving scars or causing damage to the eye tissue.”
She stressed that prevention of this disease includes maintaining eyelid hygiene, wearing eye protection such as glasses, washing hands with soap after contact, and staying away from people infected with the disease.
The city of Al-Fula is under the control of the Rapid Support Forces.
The health sector in Sudan suffers from a severe shortage of medical supplies and medicines, a shortage of personnel, and a severe shortage of water and electricity supplies. 70% to 80% of health facilities have also stopped due to the conflict.
