Kadogli – Darfur24

Asenior official in charge of social welfare in South Kordofan State, Saad Al-Fadil Badia, revealed a worrying increase in the number of homeless and beggars in Kadugli city.

Al-Fadil told Darfur24 that “Kadogli has become crowded with individuals and families who have taken to the streets in search of a safe haven or a livelihood due to the ongoing siege on the city and the high prices of goods, with families losing their sources of income.”

Kadogli is considered one of the areas directly affected by the ongoing war, as the siege imposed on the city has disrupted local economic activities.

Al-Fadil revealed the increase in internal displacement resulting from the war, which has made it difficult for many residents to secure their basic needs, as many families have been forced to leave their homes, leading to a significant increase in the number of homeless and beggars.

“The city has witnessed a sharp rise in the prices of basic commodities, making it difficult for families, especially those who have lost their sources of income, to meet their daily needs. These conditions have forced many individuals, including children, to resort to begging as a means of survival,” he continued.

“As a result of the disruption of sources of income due to the war and the security situation, many fathers have lost the ability to support their families. There have also been cases of family separation, where the father is in the city and cannot return due to the closure of roads. Although these cases do not constitute the largest percentage, they contribute to deepening the suffering of the local community.”

Saad appealed to local and international humanitarian organizations to provide assistance to the affected families by providing shelter, food and health care.
