July 31(Darfur24)Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, Commander of the Sudanese Army and Chairman of the Sovereignty Council, said today, Wednesday, that the army will not negotiate with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and is not afraid of drones.
Al-Burhan’s statement came after two drone attacks targeted a military base in eastern Sudan on Tuesday, where Al-Burhan was attending army officers’ graduation ceremony in Jebeit , Eastern Sudan.
Unidentified drones attacked a military base in eastern Sudan on Wednesday, an area that has remained untouched by the bloody war in the country, while the Sudanese Army Commander Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan was there.
For his part, the army announced the fall of “five dead” in a drone attack during a military graduation ceremony held at the Jebeit base, located about 100 kilometers from the city of Port Sudan, which has become the de facto capital of the government.
The Rapid Support Forces (RSF)denied any connection to the attempted assassination of Burhan with drones.
Eyewitnesses said that Burhan left the ceremony after the attack, while Sudanese television cut off the live broadcast of the incidents for about a quarter of an hour.
Sudan has been witnessing a war since April 2023 between the Rapid Support Forces led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo and the army led by Burhan, which has so far killed tens of thousands and led to a humanitarian crisis.
For its part RSF did not claim its responsibility for the fattal attack, which is the first of its kind on a military base in the Eastern Red Sea State (east), which the army, government and the United Nations have taken as a headquarters after the outbreak of the war.
On Tuesday, the Sudanese Foreign Ministry stressed the need for further discussions before providing a positive response to Washington’s call for talks on a ceasefire in August.
