Port Sudan, July 30(Darfur 24)The Central bureau for Statistic said on Monday that the inflation rate for the previous month of June reached 158.16%, in the first bulletin issued by the above-mentioned office since the outbreak of the war between the army and the Rapid Support Forces in April 2023.
The war has caused a huge increase in the prices of food commodities, real estate rents and services, coinciding with the continued decline in the value of the Sudanese pound.
The Central Statistical Organization said, in a statement obtained by “Darfur 24”, that June witnessed the highest general inflation rate, reaching 158.16%, while the rate in urban areas reached 155.89% and rural areas 159.43%.
The statistical office attributed this increase to the hike in residential rents during the first half of 2024 and reaching their highest level in June.
According to the office, Sudan has witnessed in recent years an soaring in the general level of prices, which affected the inflation rate, that reached 359.09% in 2021, 138.81% in 2022, and 66.61% in 2023, while the rate in the first half of this year reached 136.67%.
