El Fasher, July 30(Darfur 24)
Three people were injured on Tuesday as a result of random artillery shelling by the armed forces on Abu Shouk IDP camp in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur.
Displaced person Ibrahim Ismail told Darfur 24 that “three people were injured as a result of random artillery shelling by army bases west of the city, targeting the large market bus stop in Abu Shouk IDP camp.”
Ismail indicated that the random shelling raised new concerns about the safety of the displaced.
A military source told Darfur 24 that the random shelling was the result of a mistake that coincided with the army’s response to the Rapid Support Forces’ artillery shelling of the city on Tuesday morning.
Since the outbreak of armed clashes between the warring parties last May, the Abu Shouk camp for displaced persons in El Fasher has witnessed random shelling, most of which came from areas where the Rapid Support Forces are deployed in the northeastern axis, killing and wounding dozens of displaced persons. El Fasher has been subjected to artillery shelling since the beginning of this week, after a period of calm in the city, where deadly fighting erupted between the army and the armed movements allied with it and the Rapid Support Forces since May 10.
