Wana, July 27(Darfur24)

Last week, an armed gang abducted 9 people from Wana village, which is about 20 kilometers northwest of El Fasher, the provincial capital of North Darfur State.

Resident Hafez Ibrahim from the Donki Shatta area told Darfur24 that an unknown armed men abducted 9 people as they were coming to the market and took them to an unknown location.”

He pointed out that their kidnapping came against the backdrop of a looting of cattle belonging to nomads in early July.

Ibrahim pointed out that the kidnapped people were innocent and had nothing to do with the livestock looting incident, adding that the bandits intended to obtain a financial ransom.

The mayor of the rural Korma ,Shartai Omdiya, Al-Tijani Muhammad Salih, said he informed the authorities in North Darfur State of the kidnapping incident.

He stressed that those involved in “looting the cattle of nomads in the Donki Shatta area ŵere armed men known to the nomads and it is shameful to accuse innocent citizens of involvement in the cattles looting.”

The villages in North Darfur are living in the shadow of violations due to the lack of security, the proliferation of weapons and armed confrontations between the Sudanese army and the armed movements allied with it and the Rapid Support Forces since May 10.
