Port Sudan, July 28(Darfur24)
The Chairman of the Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Army, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, approved, on Saturday, the Cabinet decision to appoint Bahr al-Din Adam Karama as governor of West Darfur State.
Al-Burhan directed the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs and the relevant bodies and agencies to implement the decision.
Tijani al-Tahir Karshom assumed the duties of the governor following the assassination of West Darfur Governor Khamis Abdullah on June 14, 2023, by virtue of his position as deputy governor before the assassination.
Karshom refused to recognize the decision of the Ministry of Federal Governance, which stipulated his dismissal from his position and continued to perform his duties, due to the support he found from the Rapid Support Forces that took control of the state in November 2023.
The Rapid Support Forces appointed Karshom as head of the civil administration of West Darfur last June.
The new governor is expected to exercise his duties from Port Sudan, which has become a temporary capital, after state institutions moved to work there, including the Sovereignty Council and the Army Command.
