El Fasher, July 25(Darfur 24)

Internally Displaced People (IDPs) in North Darfur State have pinned their hopes on the upcoming Swiss talks between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces( RSF), to stop the war and end the tragedy of displacement and homelessness they are experiencing.

The US State Department invited the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces to participate in upcoming talks starting next August 14 in Switzerland, to establish a comprehensive ceasefire and discuss the possibility of delivering humanitarian aid, in the presence of representatives of the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and Egypt, in addition to the United States of America.

The displaced person sheltering at Al-Amal south of Al-Fasher city, Ahmed Muhammad Adam, sees the call as important to reach a complete ceasefire and provide humanitarian aid to the displaced urgently in light of the exceptional circumstances they are living in, calling for the necessity of accepting the call from all parties and not linking the matter to control in the field or decisiveness. Military.

He told Darfur 24, “The Foreign Ministry’s call came too late after the killing, looting, and displacement that affected the Sudanese citizen, the systematic destruction and looting of institutions, and the cessation of health and educational services. The parties sponsoring the negotiations must pressure the parties to stop the war.”

He appealed to the parties to the fighting to sit down directly as Sudanese to resolve the crisis and take into account the conditions of internally displaced citizens and refugees outside the country’s borders.

For her part, Amira Saleh Ahmed from Zamzam camp for displaced people southwest of El Fasher says that the parties to the fighting sitting down to negotiate is the best decision to stop the bloodshed, deliver relief and medicines to women, children and the elderly, and restore life to them.

She explained to “Darfur 24” that those most affected by this war are women, who bear the greatest share of displacement and the loss of their husbands.

She called on both parties to resort to the voice of reason and spare bloodshed, and added: “What they are doing is an act that harms the future of the children and the country. They must sit down without preconditions, and any fighting from ancient times that stops through negotiation, and the military resolution of the Sudan war will last for both parties,” she said.

The Commander of the Rapid Support Forces, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, announced his acceptance of the US State Department’s invitation to participate in the Geneva talks next August to stop the suffering of the Sudanese people, reach a comprehensive ceasefire, and deliver relief materials to those in need throughout the country.

The Sudanese army has not responded or commented on the US State Department’s invitation to participate in the negotiations so far.
