Jebel Marra , July 21(Darfur 24)Deputy United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan, Toby Harward, said that the Jebel Marra area in Central Darfur state needs large amounts of aid to reduce the increasing mortality rate

A United Nations delegation headed by Toby Harward is currently embarked on a visit to Jebel Marra area, which is under the control of the Sudanese Liberation Liberation Organization under the leadership of Abdel Wahid Mohamed Nour, and which has received hundreds of thousands of displaced people in the past months.

Toby Harward, in a tweet on the X platform, said that the distribution of food, shelter and medical supplies in Jebel Marra before the war is not sufficient to respond to current needs.

He continued: “The most vulnerable people are dying from malnutrition, with medical complications increasingly occurring.”

He stressed that newly displaced people fleeing the conflict in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State, have increased pressure on local communities, non-governmental organizations and de facto authorities as they attempt to exploit the scarce resources in Golo, Rokro, Diba-Naira, Sabanga, Sortoni and Deribat beyond acceptable limits.

The Jebel Marra areas received thousands of people fleeing the conflict that broke out in El Fasher last May 11, before its intensity recently eased, and people fleeing from other areas also fled to it.
