Port Sudan, July 21(Darfur 24)
Sudanese Interior Minister Khalil Pasha Sairin said that his country and the European Union are in the process of developing a new vision and signing an agreement to legalize illegal immigration.
Sirin participated in the Mediterranean Forum on Illegal Migration, which was held in Libya on July 17-18.
The minister indicated, in a press statement following his participation in the forum on Saturday, that the new vision is based on determining the labor requirements of European countries and providing capabilities to countries of crossing and source to reduce the phenomenon of illegal immigration.
He said that the conference approved a specialized working group responsible for determining the requirements of each country.
Sirin stated that the forum aims to expand the quadripartite agreement between Malta, Italy, Tunisia and Libya to include African countries that constitute transit and source countries for illegal immigrants.
He pointed out the cessation of the support that the European Union was providing for rapid support before the outbreak of the war.
The European Union was providing financial support to the Rapid Support Forces for its activities in combating non-migration, and this position brought it criticism from human rights organizations due to the Rapid Support Forces’ poor record in the field of human rights.
Sirin revealed Libyan demands to deport about 13,000 mercenaries in eastern Libya to their countries, noting the participation of some of them in the Sudan war.
In another context, Khalil Pasha Sairin said that the Libyan authorities promised to facilitate the visa issue for Sudanese to Libya, which reduces the phenomenon of illegal immigration.
He reported that Sudan and Libya had agreed to exchange experiences between the police services in the two countries, praising Libya’s efforts regarding its reception of Sudanese, excluding them from voluntary return, and providing them with education, job opportunities, and services.
