El Fasher, July 17(Darfur 24)
The Humanitarian Aid Commission in North Darfur Statr revealed, on Tuesday, that at least 75% of the displaced people IDPs in concentration centers had fled following escalation of clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces( RSF) in the city of El Fasher.
Hassan Saber, the official spokesman for displaced persons affairs at the state Humanitarian Aid Commission, told “Darfur 24” that the city of El Fasher was hosting thousands of displaced people who fled from conflict areas in Darfur, and they were residing in about 67 shelter centers, but the outbreak of clashes in El Fasher forced them to flee again.
Saber stated that the clashes that are still continuing between the aforementioned parties forced the displaced people from 51 shelter centers to flee outside the state, and others were displaced to the Tawila and Dar es Salaam localities, along with others who joined the gatherings of displaced people in the Zamzam and Shukra camps, west of El Fasher.
Saber pointed out that the displaced in their new displacement gatherings need urgent humanitarian assistance, especially the displaced in “Shaqra, Golo, Shala and Zamzam.”
In this context, Ahmed Adam, a member of the Zamzam Emergency Room, told “Darfur 24” that Zamzam camp is witnessing unprecedented overcrowding these days as a result of the clashes that El Fasher witnessed recently, which portends a potential health disaster as a result of overcrowding and a lack of clean water, latrines, bathrooms, and sewage systems in the camp.
He pointed to the deteriorating humanitarian conditions among South Sudanese refugees fleeing Bentiu camp in El Fasher and who have been sleeping in trees in Zamzam camp since late May.
For his part, the director of the water and environmental sanitation project in the water sector in the state, Engineer Idris Muhammad Suleiman, revealed the arrival of about 6 water and environmental sanitation aid trucks provided by UNICEF to North Darfur state, but they are still piled up in the “Al-Tineh” area and have not arrived yet as a result of the deteriorating security conditions.
