El Fasher , July 16(Darfur 24)About 10,000 internally displaced people IDPs from the city of El Fasher, who were displaced to the city of Shearia in East Darfur, are living in extremely difficult conditions amidst a lack of food and shelter.
A member of the emergency room in the Shaeria area, Daoud Abdullah, confirmed to “Darfur 24” that the Shaeria locality in East Darfur State received about 10,000 displaced people, most of whom were children, women, and the elderly, in schools as temporary shelter centers, and some families were distributed in neighborhoods.
He said that daily monitoring operations found that about 100 people fled every day from El Fasher to Sheeria without any services being provided to them. He added, “There are some charities who provide irregular meals to the fleeing people, but so far there are no organizations to intervene.”
He mentioned that there were previous efforts made by the “Alite” organization to provide some aid in the amount of 20 thousand pounds per family, in addition to the distribution of 100 sacks of corn to the emergency room of the city of Shearia to the most needy displaced persons, with a donation from one of the people of Shearia in the diaspora.
He pointed to some government roles in following up on the issues of the displaced, including environmental sanitation, providing water, registering and counting the displaced, and appealing to national and international organizations to intervene and secure shelter centers.
For her part, the health official at the shelter center in the Majlis neighborhood in Shaeria, Amna Yaqoub, revealed to “Darfur 24” the bad conditions for women in the centers, including the absence of primary health care for pregnant women and the spread of malnutrition among children due to the lack of food, the lack of medicines, medical consumables, and medical personnel, and the forcedness of the displaced to seek treatment in private health centers.
She said that she fled from El Fasher to Sheeria and works as a volunteer in the health field to provide health advice to the displaced, treat wounds and minor operations.
One of the displaced people in the Al-Majlis neighborhood shelter, Al-Sadiq Othman Ahmed, told “Darfur 24” about the tragic humanitarian conditions, the lack of food, the absence of relief organizations, and the high prices of food commodities.
He said that the price of a bag of millet reached 200,000 pounds, and the price of a bag of corn reached 180,000 pounds, with the difficulty of obtaining cash and the lack of job opportunities to provide food for families.
He said that the number of displaced people, old and new, exceeds 30,000 people in urgent need of urgent intervention and shelter due to the onset of the fall season, and the provision of agricultural machinery and seeds to go to farms to prevent the occurrence of a hunger disaster in the coming months.
According to the Displacement Tracking Matrix from the International Organization for Migration, about 328,000 people were displaced from El Fasher to the neighboring areas, Tawila, Rorukro, El Daein, Nyala, and Mellit.
