Nirtiti , July 15(Darfur 24)
The Deputy United Nations Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs in Sudan, Toby Harward, revealed efforts to restore the work of UN agencies in Darfur if guarantees are available to deliver humanitarian aid to displaced people fleeing the ongoing war between the army and the Rapid Support Forces in the cities of the region.
These days, a United Nations delegation headed by Toby Harward is visiting the Jebel Marra area, which is under the control of the Sudan Liberation Army, led by Abdel Wahid Mohamed Nur, and which has received hundreds of thousands of displaced people in the past months.
When he met with representatives of the civil administration of the Sudan Liberation Army Movement, Abdel Wahid Nur wing, in the city of Nertiti, Toby Harward said that he came at the head of a reconnaissance mission consisting of representatives of the United Nations Security and Safety Department, the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, and the World Food Programme.
He pointed out that the visit aims to assess the situation on the ground, explore effective means of providing humanitarian aid to the displaced, and the possibility of reactivating United Nations agencies and organizations in the region if guarantees are available to deliver humanitarian aid to those affected by the war.
Tobi expressed his sadness at the increasing suffering of citizens in Darfur as a result of the continuing armed conflict between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, calling for a ceasefire and securing roads to deliver humanitarian aid to the displaced people affected by the war, whose suffering increases every day.
Toby Harward supervised the distribution of non-food items to 600 displaced families in the city of Nirti, provided by the National People for People Organization.
The displaced called for the need to provide them with more services, especially food, treatment, agricultural and shelter, especially in the midst of the difficult conditions they are experiencing during the rainy season.
