Zalingei, July 11(Darfur 24)
Mediators from the people of Central Darfur State have succeeded in reopening the “Zalingei-Yartiti-Kas-Nyala” road after it was closed by the Sudan Liberation Movement, led by Abdel Wahid Nour, for more than two months.
Fruit merchants in Zalingei market expressed their gratitude for the efforts made by the brokers to open the road and enable goods trucks to pass.
Trader Ismail Ali “Katea” said, “If it had not been for the repeated attempts of the civil mediators and their movements between the Abdel Wahid movement, the Rapid Support Forces, and the sheikhs of the Arab tribes in the region between Zalingei and Qemzeh, southeast of Tur, the commercial movement would have stopped between Jebel Marra and Zalingei on the one hand, and West Jebel and Nyala on the other hand.” “The other.”
He added, “The decision to open the road addressed a major problem for residents of major cities who were in dire need of Jebel Marra’s agricultural and horticultural products. It also addressed merchants’ concerns about the possibility of losing their large markets.”
For his part, one of the merchants called Adam said that the decision came at the right time, because the alternative roads that the merchants were exploiting after the closure of the “Khor Ramla” road were rugged and unsafe, and could not be walked on during the fall season, stressing that “there is no way to the mountain or to Nyala except Via Zalingei-Nertiti-Kas-Nyala.”
He stated that the road was opened after attempts by popular mediators from civil administrations, merchants and notables, which culminated in an agreement between the parties to lift the gates on the road between “Nirti and Zalingei” and allow civilian vehicles to cross to Kas and Nyala, on the condition that those affiliated with the Rapid Support Forces do not carry weapons inside the city of Zalingei.
