El Fasher, July 9(Darfur 24)

The Sudanese army and the forces of the armed movements allied with it in the city of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, on Tuesday allowed citizens to use satellite Internet devices in markets and neighborhoods after preventing them and confiscating some of them last Wednesday.

A military source justified preventing the operation of satellite Internet devices in El Fasher for using them to spread rumors about the fall of the city and giving coordinates to the Rapid Support Forces to target military institutions and sites and cooperate with the enemy.

One of the owners of the Internet devices, who preferred to withhold his name, told “Darfur 24” that the owners of the devices protested against the operation of some devices owned by individuals in the joint force and the Sudanese army in the vicinity of the Grand Market and some neighborhoods, and the monopoly of that for their benefit.

He said that he was informed that he was allowed to operate his own shop by a soldier.

Dozens of citizens were forced to go to the Shaqra area, 15 km west of El Fasher, to make calls through available applications, transfer money, and then return to the city.

The El Fasher Resistance Committees appealed to the authorities to lift the ban on the operation of the satellite Internet “Wi-Fi” in the city of El Fasher so that citizens could check on their families.

She said in a brief post on her Facebook page on Monday that the satellite Internet is linked to the lives of citizens in the markets to buy their basic needs through banking applications and transfer money.

The city of El Fasher has entered the second month of cutting off communications networks in the city, with only Starlink Wi-Fi communications services available.

There are more than 100 Starlink devices in the city that serve citizens after paying fees ranging from 1,000-2,000 pounds per hour. They help in conducting banking transactions, transferring money through them, and knowing the news of their families in the regions of Sudan and abroad.
