El Fasher, July 4(Darfur 24)
The Sudan Liberation Movement, led by Abdel Wahed Muhammad Ahmed Al-Nur, has proposed an initiative for the fighting parties to withdraw from the city of El Fasher and its environs to protect the remaining citizens and infrastructure.
The movement said in a statement in the name of Abdel Wahed Nour, a copy of which was received by Darfur 24, that the initiative came out of its national, humanitarian and moral responsibility and to address the humanitarian situation, and that the city of El Fasher is located on the outskirts of areas under its control, to which thousands of citizens fled without being able to provide medicine and food, as it is beyond its capacity.
It pointed out the continued daily flow of displaced people from El Fasher to areas under its control.
It stated that the aforementioned reasons are sufficient for all the fighting forces and their allies to leave the city of El Fasher, without the city being of military value to any of the parties to the conflict.
The movement called on the parties to respond to the initiative unconditionally and to prioritize the national interest over personal and organizational interests.
It announced the commitment of the movement’s forces, as a neutral party, to work to protect citizens, provide security, and strive with others to address the humanitarian situation left by the war, bring in international humanitarian organizations to help the victims, and transform the city of El Fasher into a demilitarized zone and a center for managing humanitarian affairs and relief in the Darfur, Kordofan, and White Nile regions due to geographical proximity and the presence of paved roads. .
It called on the parties to the conflict to adhere to international humanitarian law and the ethics of war, and for the Sudanese citizen and his safety to be the priority.
I appealed to the international community, IGAD, the African Union, and the League of Arab States to support the initiative to address the dire situation in El Fasher.
