Sinja, June 30(Darfur 24)

Thousands of residents of the city of Sinja, the capital of Sennar State, have fled to various areas, hours after it came under the control of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) which began looting the city and committing violations against its residents.

Activists on social media published pictures showing people fleeing Sinja to nearby villages and to the city of Dinder, which is considered a crossing point to Gedaref.

Thousands fled to the city of Sennar, for fearing the Rapid Support Forces, which took control of Jabal Muya, which is about 40 kilometers away from Sennar.

Eyewitnesses told Darfur 24 that the Rapid Support Forces began looting civilians’ cars, homes, and markets in the city of Sinja.

The Sinar Youth Association said, in a statement, “The city of Sinja is still under the control of militias, and there are waves of mass displacement across the city of Sinar and Sinja. They do not know where to go.” They get out of danger first and think later. They are crawling on their feet after the militias looted their vehicles.”

The Sinari Observatory for Human Rights documented the Rapid Support Forces detaining dozens of civilian patients and medical personnel as human shields inside the Sinja Teaching Hospital and preventing them from leaving.

The Observatory said that the Rapid Support uses the hospital as its military center.

He continued: “What the Rapid Support is doing is a clear violation of international humanitarian law and is considered a full-fledged war crime.”
