The South Darfur state government stressed that it will not tolerate anyone who tries to obstruct the current agricultural season, threatening that anyone who does so will be dealt with decisively

The Ministry of Local Government in the Civil Administration of South Darfur State organized a conference on pastoral routes that was held in Nyala on Wednesday, with the participation of the executive bodies of the localities and the local administration and those specialized in the agricultural and animal fields, as part of the arrangements to secure and succeed the current agricultural season, which the state is counting on to address the food shortage.

The Deputy Head of the Civil Administration in the state, Minister of Culture and Information, Adam Ismail Al-Nour, said during the opening of the conference’s proceedings that the conference is the beginning of finding decisive draft laws that define the relationship between farmers and herders and establishing mechanisms to implement the project. He continued, “If we are not able to make the current agricultural season a success, we will have failed in the first step.” For our civil government, we are striving with all our might to make it a success to fill the food gap in the state.”

Al-Nour revealed a trend to form a public prosecution concerned with securing the agricultural season, and there will be mobile courts that will see light soon to resolve problems that occur between farmers and herders, directing local officials to activate laws related to agriculture and to be a deterrent for both parties.

Al-Nour directed a ban on the cultivation of beds, trays, and stages, and said that this season anyone who tries to establish a farm in the aforementioned sites will be eliminated in order to get out of the season without any friction. He called on the competent authorities in the Ministry of Local Government to prepare a draft project to secure the agricultural seasons, whether summer or rainy.

Next to him, the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Badr al-Din Muhammad Ahmed Dafallah, said that despite the difficult circumstances and challenges ahead, they have begun arrangements related to securing and making the agricultural season a success and preserving the relationship between the farmer and the shepherd.

He revealed that South Darfur has “24” million agricultural acres suitable for agriculture, of which “18” million acres are cultivated, of which only “9” million are cultivated, and it needs major work in this season due to its importance. He hopes that the conference will come out with a clear vision and enact laws regulating the relationship between the herder and the farmer with a clear vision that contributes. In developing agricultural work in the state.

During the conference, Minister of Livestock Adam Othman Ziadeh reviewed several factors for the success of the agricultural season, including “the formation of the state’s supreme committee and subcommittees in localities that include decision-making bodies and representatives of herders, farmers, and the civil administration, in addition to allocating a military force that will be equipped to secure the agricultural season at the local level in the event of any emergency. It enhances the state’s power, and before that is the necessity of immediately starting to open paths and stages, which solve 50% of the problems of shepherds and farmers, as well as the necessity of keeping trays and lodges open to prevent any friction.

The minister said that his ministry is ready to produce vaxins and vaccinate livestock that have not been vaccinated for more than two years due to the war, noting that livestock technicians maintained the equipment of the vaccine production factory.
