Shendi, June 25(Darfur 24)
The Political Bureau of the Sudanese Communist Party announced the arrest of the party’s leader, Amal Al-Zein, by military intelligence in the city of Shendi, River Nile State.

The communist party said in a statement, “Amal Al-Zein was arrested yesterday morning by military intelligence and taken to an unknown location. Her family and lawyer friends were not allowed to visit her and check on her.”

The statement confirmed that Amal Al-Zein suffers from diabetes and high blood pressure and takes regular medications, while Sudanese army intelligence in Shindi refused to have any contact with her, even though her health condition requires the supervision of doctors, according to the statement.

The statement demanded that Amal Al-Zein be released immediately and that her family and lawyers be allowed to visit her and check on her health. It also demanded that doctors be allowed to meet her and provide the necessary medications and treatments.

Al-Bayat held the military intelligence of the Sudanese army and the de facto authority fully responsible for any danger threatening party member Amal Al-Zein.

The statement appealed to the democratic lawyers to intervene immediately to release the detainee. It also appealed to the active Sudanese forces and all friendly parties inside and outside Sudan and human rights organizations to intervene to release Amal Al-Zein.
