Nairobi , June 23)Darfur 24)

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) havr continued their campaign of arresting civilians in the city of Nyala, the capital of South Darfur State, under the guise of fighting :negative phenomena” following the formation of the civil administration.

This June, the Rapid Support Forces formed a civil administration that issued an emergency order to combat negative phenomena, while giving the joint Rapid Support Forces and the police complete immunity in its implementation.

Informed sources told “Darfur 24” that the Rapid Support Forces launched massive security campaigns in the markets and neighborhoods of the city and arrested hundreds of citizens for violating emergency orders issued by the Civil Administration.

One of the detainees – who preferred to withhold his name – revealed to “Darfur 24”, after his release last week in the city of Nyala and payment of 800 thousand pounds, that the Rapid Support Forces intelligence continues to arrest civilians and soldiers under the guise of fighting negative phenomena.

He said that he was arrested from the Al-Geneina parking market, located west of the city, and accused of being affiliated with the army. He added: “I was arrested and taken to the headquarters of the People’s Police, next to the Sudanese Red Crescent, east of Al-Maroor, and asked to pay an amount of one million pounds, but my family was forced to collect the amount that was not completed, and they were handed over the remaining 800 thousand pounds and I was released.”

He pointed out that there were detainees accused of financing the army in the city of El Fasher by sending medicines, medical consumables, and foodstuffs.

He continued: “The People’s Police Headquarters detention center has more than 100 detainees on various charges, and you often have to pay a sum of money and take an oath, and then you are released.”

One of the detainees, who was released last month and left Sudan, Abu Bakr Omar, told “Darfur 24” that the arrests in the city of Nyala are random and the aim is to collect sums of money from citizens under false pretexts.

He reported that he was arrested from the Grand Market in Nyala while going to the south of the city, where he was taken to the headquarters of the General Intelligence Service in the east of the city and remained there for three weeks, during which he was subjected to investigation regarding his connection to the army and the police. He was released with the guarantee of his tribe’s native administration and payment of a fine of 500,000 pounds.

One of the previously released detainees had called on human rights and humanitarian organizations to intervene to find out where the detainees were being held.

He told “Darfur 24” that he knew of the existence of detention centers in Umm al-Qura, north of Nyala, the Degrees prison detention center, the central, northern and Al-Jir sections of Nyala, a special detention center for the leaders of the civil administration at the Rapid Support headquarters in the airport district, the use of the military intelligence detention center in the 16th Infantry Division, the security police detention center west of the Stock Exchange, and the headquarters of the intelligence service. General Assembly North of the Stock Exchange, it is expected that the number of detainees will be more than 200 people, both civilians and military.

A military source in the Rapid Support Forces in the city of Nyala revealed to “Darfur 24” – who refused to reveal his identity – that a number of detainees had been released based on false information about them.

He pointed out that some of the detainees have not yet been released because there is evidence proving their involvement in supporting the army, joining the popular resistance, and supporting the military aircraft attack on the city of Nyala.

He denied that there was torture of detainees and allowed them to communicate with their families and enjoy all rights, refusing to reveal the number of detainees in the city of Nyala and their places of detention for security reasons and their safety, as he said.

According to “Darfur 24” sources, Abdullah Ismail, the agricultural seed trader in Nyala, known as “The Pakistani,” has been detained since last March, while Professor Ahmed Ishaq Al-Shawali was released after paying a sum of money and pledging not to divulge any information after an arrest that lasted for three weeks.

Community sources in the city of Buram, 156 kilometers south of Nyala, revealed that the Rapid Support Forces released dozens of their detainees after intense civil pressure and sharp disagreements between the civil administration and community leaders.

The sources told “Darfur 24” that the number of detainees ranged between 100-150 people.
