El Fasher, June 15(Darfur 24)

A police officer attached to the Passports and Immigration Department in the city of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State, died under torture in the prisons of the armed struggle movements ten days after his arrest.

Police sources confirmed to “Darfur 24” the killing of warrant officer Abdel Mufarrej Jamal al-Din, who is from the city of Gedaref in eastern Sudan, in El-Fasher, after he was arrested from his home in Aldarja neighborhood ten days ago on charges of spying for the Rapid Support Forces (RSF)

The sources revealed that the armed movements had previously asked Jamal al-Din to leave his house next to the house of Major General Abu Nashuk, commander of the Rapid Support Sector in North Darfur, before he was arrested.

The source added that there are ongoing arrests of civilians, some members of the police, the army, and the armed movements themselves on charges of spying with the Rapid Support Forces since the renewed battles, amid reports of widespread violations of detainees without intervention by the authorities.

The city of El Fasher has witnessed continuous clashes since last May 10 between the Sudanese army and the forces of the armed movements allied with it and the Rapid Support Forces, which left more than a thousand dead and wounded, according to Doctors Without Borders, and thousands of residents fled towards neighboring areas.
