A senior source in the Sudan Liberation Army Movement, led by Abdul Wahed Muhammad Nour SLM’s al Nur, revealed that the movement’s force, led by the movement’s Chief of Staff, Yusuf Karjikula, had left the city of El Fasher to the Tawila area under its control.

The source, who preferred to withhold his name, confirmed to “Darfur 24” the departure of the force that was based in the west of the city of El Fasher and established security outposts in some neighborhoods to protect civilians and the headquarters of international organizations and service institutions.

The source added, “The movement’s forces left El Fasher in late May to protect thousands of displaced people fleeing the city to Jebel Marra, who are in dire need of protection from armed militias,” he said.

He denied that the Sudan Liberation Movement, headed by Abdel Wahed Nour, had any military coordination with the Sudanese army or the Rapid Support Forces, but rather was neutral, away from supporting the parties to the conflict.

The Chief of Staff of the Sudan Liberation Movement Army, Youssef Karjakula, arrived in the city of El Fasher last March, at the head of a military force of more than 70 vehicles with full military equipment, coming from the north and east of Jebel Marra before returning to the Tawila area at the end of last March.

He returned again to the city of El Fasher on May 12, for the second time this year, at the head of a military force of 89 vehicles with full military equipment, coming from Tawila after the city of El Fasher witnessed fierce battles on May 10, in which dozens of civilians were killed and wounded, and residents were displaced towards… Areas under his movement’s control.

On November 25 of last year, Karjakula arrived in the city of El Fasher for the first time with a force estimated at more than 74 four-wheel-drive vehicles with full military equipment.

The movement said at the time in a statement that Karjakula came on a social visit to the city and had nothing to do with military action or coordination with any party.

Cars belonging to the Abdel Wahed Nour movement were later seen roaming inside the city of El Fasher and at a number of bases.
