Nyala , June 13(Darfur 24)
The joint force consisting of the Rapid Support Forces and the police in the city of Nyala, the capital of South Darfur, launched security campaigns to combat negative phenomena in the markets and neighborhoods of the city, in implementation of the emergency order issued by the head of the Civil Administration, Mohamed Ahmed Hassan.
The campaign arrested a number of defendants in several cases, including weapons, collateral, drugs, and receiving stolen money. The campaign included the El Geneina parking market, west of the city, and the Qadir and Al-Shaabi markets located in the Al-Wahda neighborhood, south of Nyala, and parts of the livestock market northeast of Nyala, and the Al-Jir, Al-Wahda, and Al-Salam neighborhoods.
Mohamed Ahmed Hassan, head of the Civil Administration in South Darfur, said in press statements that the goal of the campaign is for citizens to feel safe and secure and to develop a plan, using available aids, to continue it after the initial phase, which is scheduled for a month.
He pointed to the systematic destruction and devastation in the city of Nyala, which requires great efforts to stop it, especially the theft of doors and windows, warning those who get away with strict penalties, including confiscation of looted items, 6 months imprisonment, and a fine of 3 million pounds.
Eyewitnesses from the city of Nyala told “Darfur 24” that the recent campaigns had a positive impact by eliminating the appearance of carrying weapons, Kadmol, and motorcycles.
Citizen Ezzedine Daoud Hussein told “Darfur 24” that the importance of the campaign lies in its continuity, revealing bad security conditions during the past months, including murders, kidnappings, and thefts, including the theft of doors and windows from abandoned homes in a number of neighborhoods, the large market, and some service institutions.
He expressed his wishes for the continuation of the campaigns that began on Monday, the effects of which were evident through the curfew and the prohibition of carrying weapons and riding motorcycles for only one person.
Meanwhile, Nadia Hassan Yahya confirmed to “Darfur 24” that the phenomenon of buying and selling drugs and pills has spread widely without any accountability, and called on the head of the Civil Administration to fight it for the sake of the safety of young people’s minds and to prevent some members of the Rapid Support Forces from exploiting their authority to trade in narcotic pills in the markets.
Muhammad Ahmed Hassan, in Emergency Order No. (1) obtained by Darfur 24, prohibited the preparation, publication, or circulation of news that harms the lives of citizens and public tranquility, including carrying weapons in markets and public gatherings, and not firing at public or private occasions except with permission.
A partial curfew was imposed within the city of Nyala from nine o’clock at night until five o’clock in the morning, and a ban on riding any additional person on a motorcycle.
Mohamed Ahmed Hassan decided to arrest people suspected of participating in an emergency-related crime, with the joint forces consisting of the military police, Rapid Support Intelligence, and police forces carrying out the arrest, provided that they are detained in police custody.
It granted the joint forces the authority to guard markets, public parking lots, and outposts in markets and gas stations, and also prevented taking any measures against the forces that implement the emergency order while performing their duty except with permission from the head of the Civil Administration.
The emergency order imposed a prison sentence of six months or a fine of three million pounds for anyone who violates the law, as the Nyala Central Court is responsible for examining emergency violations.
