Port Sudan, June 13(Darfur24)

The Sudanese Army Commander, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, issued a constitutional decree Thursday appointing Salah al-Din Adam Tur as a member of the Sovereignty Council, representing the Sudan Liberation Movement and the Transitional Council in the government.

Salah al-Din, known as “Rasas,” is one of the dissident leaders of the Transitional Council movement headed by Al-Hadi Idris. He announced early on his bias towards the Sudanese army during the war against the Rapid Support Forces.

According to the Transitional Sovereignty Council’s media, Al-Burhan’s decision to appoint “Rasas” as a member of the Sovereignty Council comes within the framework of the commitment to implement the Juba Peace Agreement with Sudan.

In November last year, Al-Burhan dismissed Al-Hadi Idris from the membership of the Council. He also issued a similar decision to dismiss Al-Taher Hajar, and demanded that the parties to the Juba Peace Agreement nominate others on their behalf.

Al-Hadi Idris and Al-Tahir Hajar announced that their movements were neutral regarding the war that has been going on since April 15, 2023 between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces.

For its part, Salah Rassas Group said, “His appointment to the Sovereignty Council came about due to his clear positions across the ages, and his appointment will accelerate the elimination of the rebel Rapid Support Forces,” according to a statement.
