Port Sudan. June 8(Darfur 24)

The Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Workneh Gebeho, said that the incidents in Wad El Nora village highlight the urgent need for the international community to strengthen efforts towards a peaceful solution to the war in Sudan.

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) committed a heinous massacre during their attack on the village of Wad Al-Noura in Al-Jazeera State, killing approximately 150 individuals, while other reports indicate that the death toll exceeded 200 people.

In a statement obtained by Darfur 24, Workneh Gebehu expressed his anger at the tragic incident that took place in Wad al-Noura, and he also “condemned the massacre that killed at least 150 people, including 35 children.”

He added: “This brutal act is a stark reminder of the profound suffering endured by innocent civilians, especially women and children, in light of this senseless conflict.”

He pointed out that IGAD is deeply concerned about the continued deterioration of the situation in Sudan, as the conflict exacerbates severe hunger and pushes different regions towards famine.

IGAD called on the army and the Rapid Support Forces to immediately cease hostilities and return to negotiations.
