Shendi, June 5(Darfur 24)

The preliminary committee of the Sudan Medical Syndicate announced, on Wednesday, the arrest of Dr. Fatima Hassan Muhammad Ahmed Ali by the military intelligence of the Sudanese army in the Nile River State.

The committee said in a statement, “The detained doctor, deputy psychiatrist, is a graduate of Kassala University. She was arrested by military intelligence about two weeks ago in the city of Abu Hamad, and no investigation was conducted with her before she was transferred to the city of Shendi.”

The statement added, “Based on our union and professional role towards doctors’ rules, we hold the parties that arrested Dr. Fatima, we bear full responsibility for her safety and we demand her immediate release, and we demand an end to the restrictions on doctors and health facilities and everything that might affect the health service for our people who are suffering from the scourge of war that is becoming more widespread and the collapse of services.”

Civilians in Sudan face multiple violations by the parties to the military conflict, each in its areas of control, as the parties to the conflict maintain dozens of civilian detainees on charges of collaborating with the other party.
