Washington , May 29(Darfur 24)US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken spoke on Tuesday with Sudanese army commander Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan.
US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said that Blinken spoke by phone to Al-Burhan and discussed with him “the need to urgently end the conflict in Sudan.”
Blinken and Al-Burhan discussed “the resumption of negotiations in Jeddah, the need to protect civilians, and stop the escalation of hostilities in Al-Fasher, North Darfur state.”
Minister Blinken called for unhindered access of humanitarian aid, including across borders and through humanitarian corridors, to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people.
Since May 10, continuous battles have been taking place between the army and its allied movements and the Rapid Support Forces and the militias supporting them in El Fasher, in which more than a thousand civilians have been killed or wounded.
