Addis Ababa. May 28(Darfur24)
The head of the Popular Front for Liberation and Justice, Khaled Shawish, revealed the existence of camps in the state of Eritrea to train fighters from eastern Sudan with the knowledge of the Sudanese army.
Shawish said in a statement to “Darfur 24” that they are “closely following the presence of camps in Eritrea for fighters from eastern Sudan, but we do not know who will fight these soldiers who are being trained.”
Shawish confirmed that the training of fighters from eastern Sudan in Eritrean camps is carried out by certain groups that want to reserve a seat for them in the upcoming political process, according to him.
He pointed to the intersection of agendas between the parties connected to the training camps. While the Sudanese army wants these fighters to be independent in its war against the Rapid Support Forces, Eritrea has its own agenda through hosting the camps, as well as the agenda of the fighters themselves, which is to ensure participation in the upcoming political process.
Eritrea has previously hosted camps to train former soldiers of armed movements from Darfur and to recruit numbers of new fighters from various regions of Sudan, including the east.
