معارك الفاشر

El Fasher , May 26 (Darfur 24)

Residents of El Fasher, the provincial capital of North Darfur state, warned of the danger of health and environmental catastrophes caused by corpses in the streets of the city of Elfashir, some of which have begun to decompose.

Since May 10, continuous battles have been taking place between the army and its allied movements and the Rapid Support Forces and their supporting militias in El Fasher.

Eyewitnesses told Darfur 24 on Saturday that there were dozens of bodies in the streets of El Fasher resulting from clashes between the Sudanese army and RSF.

Witnesses reported that there were bodies of two soldiers and others in civilian clothes, likely to be on alert, still in the streets, especially in the neighborhoods located in the vicinity of the clashes in the northern and southeastern part of the city.

Witnesses noted that there were bodies lying in the streets for more than two weeks, but the competent authorities were unable to reach them due to the continuing battles.

Activist in Naivasha camp, Muhammad Sabeel, warned that the presence of corpses in the streets may lead to health disasters, especially since the rainy season is approaching.

A source in the Sudanese Red Crescent, who preferred to withhold his identity, confirmed to Darfur 24 that there were bodies in the streets in the fighting areas in El Fasher.

He said that the continuation of battles makes it difficult for teams working in this field to reach, in addition to the lack of morgues with the required capacity and the power outage for more than a year.

He did not rule out the occurrence of health and environmental disasters, after some bodies began to decompose, expecting the number of bodies to increase in light of the battles that are renewed daily.
