El Fasher, May 21(Darfur 24)
Military sources affiliated with the Joint Force of the Armed Struggle Movement revealed, on Tuesday, the withdrawal of a faction from the Sudan Liberation Forces, from the city of El Fasher and announced its siding with Al-Tahir Hajar faction.
A senior military source in the Joint Force, who preferred to remain anonymous, told “Darfur 24” that an armed group led by Major General Ahmed Abu Tanga, consisting of more than 20 combat vehicles, declared its bias towards the faction of the head of the Sudan Liberation Rally, who was recently dismissed by a group within the movement.
The source stated that this group withdrew from the borders of El Fasher a day ago and joined the fighting ranks with the Rapid Support Forces, which have been fighting the Sudanese army and the joint force since last week as part of its announced plan to control El Fasher.
The same source downplayed the impact of this group’s bias on the course of events in El Fasher or the impact on the joint force tool because it is not originally part of the joint force.
Meanwhile, a police source in the Central Reserve Forces, for his part, confirmed the veracity of the news, accusing the splinter group of helping the Rapid Support Forces advance in the southern axis.
Disagreements erupted within the Sudan Liberation Forces Movement, after a group loyal to the Sudanese army decided to dismiss the movement’s leader, Al-Tahir Abu Bakr Hajar. After being accused of being loyal to the Rapid Support Forces.
The decision to remove Hajar from the presidency of the Sudan Liberation Army forces was issued by the “Central Revolutionary Liberation Council,” which is the highest oversight authority within the movement.
In a counter-resolution to the Deputy Chairman of the Revolutionary Liberation Council, the Council’s Rapporteur, Abu Bakr Al-Nur Yaqoub, issued a statement in which he refuted the decision to dismiss Al-Taher Hajar, saying that the decision to dismiss any member of the Executive Office must be based on a consensus of two-thirds of the members plus one of the Legislative Council in accordance with Article 7_7, paragraph 1 and Article (7-8), paragraph 9, of the powers of the Council.
