Port Sudan , May 21( Darfur 24)

The Secretary of the Government of West Darfur State, in charge of the duties of Governor Mubarak Juma Dirar, relieved local officials from his residence in the city of Port Sudan, eastern Sudan, who are carrying out their duties in El Geneina.

The Rapid Support Forces took control of West Darfur state in November 2023, after committing ethnic cleansing crimes against the Masalit ethnicity, according to Human Rights Watch.

Human Rights Watch held the commander of the Rapid Support Forces, Muhammad Hamdan Dagalo “Hemedti,” his brother Abdul Rahim, and the commander of the West Darfur sector, Juma Barak Allah, responsible for leading the forces that committed crimes of ethnic cleansing.

Mubarak Juma Dirar issued decisions obtained by “Darfur 24”, ruling to dismiss local officials working in a government led by Tajani Al-Tahir Karshoum since the era of the murdered governor, Khamis Abkar.

Dirar dismissed the Director-General of the Ministry of Health, Abdel Salam Mustafa, the Director-General of the Ministry of Livestock, Abdel-Wahab Mohamed Ahmed, and the Advisor to the Governor for Peace and Reconciliation, Dhaw al-Bayt Adam Yaqoub, from their positions.

The dismissal included Bashir Adam Al-Senussi from the position of Secretary of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, and Khalil Hamed from the position of Executive Director of Bayda Locality.

Last December, the Ministry of Federal Government relieved Tjani Al-Taher Karshoum of his assignment as governor of West Darfur State, but Karshoum, who enjoys support from the Rapid Support, refused to acknowledge the decision to dismiss him.

Last February, the Ministry of Federal Government assigned Mubarak Juma Dirar the position of Secretary-General of the West Darfur State Government and to carry out the duties of the governor.
