El Fasher , May 19( Darfur 24)
The Federal Union has called for declaring a humanitarian truce in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State, and opening safe corridors to evacuate civilians from areas of military clashes, delivering humanitarian relief to the besieged, and transporting the wounded to safe places to complete their treatment.
Since May 10, continuous battles have been taking place between the army and its allied movements and the Rapid Support Forces and their supporting militias in El Fasher.
The Federal Assembly said, in a statement obtained by Darfur 24, that it is following with great concern the escalation of events and military operations in and around El Fasher in recent weeks.
He stressed the deterioration of the security situation in El Fasher significantly as a result of the military siege imposed by the Rapid Support Forces on the city and the escalation of military operations, aerial bombardment and artillery shelling on neighborhoods in the east and north of the city, which led to the displacement of most of its residents towards the south.
He added: “With the continued siege of the city, the increasing military escalation, and the disagreements between the two sides of the conflict over the delivery of humanitarian aid and the inability to bring it into El Fasher, the food gap has expanded in El Fasher and the rest of the state.”
