Khartoum, May 2(Darfur 24)

The Humanitarian Aid Commission approved the transfer of 40,000 bags of flour from the aid allocated to the Darfur region to the states of Khartoum, River Nile and the North.

The Commission, led by Salwa Adam Benya, said that the move came with the agreement of the regional government led by Minni Arko Minawi.

She explained in a statement that aid shipments had been halted in the city of “Al-Dabba” in the northern state for nearly a month and a half, as their entry into Darfur was hindered due to the security conditions.

The statement added, “In order to benefit from these shipments and so that they are not exposed to damage or poor storage, and after a series of joint meetings with the Darfur Region Emergency Committee, it was agreed to reallocate this 40,000 sacks of flour to Khartoum State, 30,000 sacks, the Nile River, 5,000 sacks, and the North.” 5 thousand mobile phones, provided that the Darfur region’s share will be compensated at a later time after the security conditions improve, so that it reaches those who deserve it.”

Two days ago, the Darfur Lawyers Association revealed that the Darfur regional government, led by Minni Arko Minawi, sold humanitarian aid in the markets of El Fasher, El Obeid, and El Dabba, instead of delivering it to those who deserve it in Darfur.

The association said in a statement titled “Corruption in Relief for the Darfur Region,” that “some relief reached the state of North Darfur and was not distributed to all the states of the region, despite the arrival of delegations from the concerned states to receive their share, but the government of the Darfur region refused, and a large amount of relief materials were sold.” In El Fasher market.”

He stated that “other relief materials were transported via the Port Sudan – Madani – Kosti – El Obeid – El Fasher road, and huge numbers of them leaked into the markets of Madani and El Obeid.”

He continued, “Yesterday, twenty-eight trucks were sold in the Al-Dabba area, designated for the Darfur region.”

The statement condemned the manipulation and corruption in the transfer and sale of relief materials intended for war victims, calling for a comprehensive investigation into the issue of relief manipulation.

He added, “We call on international organizations to reconsider how to distribute and deliver relief and the necessity of joint committees among all parties to facilitate the arrival of humanitarian aid.”
