The Coordination of Professionals and Trade Unions in Sudan announced that more than 3 million workers have lost their jobs forever due to the war between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, which has entered its second year.

The coordination stated in a statement that “a year after the war, more than 3 million Sudanese men and women have lost their jobs forever, while preliminary statistics estimate that 80% of workers in the government sector have not received the basic wage since 2023.”

The statement indicated that only 33% disbursed the wages owed to civilian workers in the state, confirming the reduction of employment from the banking sector and the private sector without the slightest consideration of end-of-service rights and benefits according to the Sudanese Labor Law, according to the statement.

The statement said that about 5 million people are one step away from famine due to lack of food and clean water, according to what was announced by the World Food Organization.

He continued, “The Sudanese people live under extremely complex humanitarian conditions, and despite the concerted regional and international efforts to improve the humanitarian situation, the speed of the response does not match the speed of collapse and destruction sweeping the country.”

The statement called for the unity of workers around the plan to build peace in one Sudan, peaceful coexistence, and rebuilding and establishing a new Sudan from a professional perspective.

He pointed out that this year’s International Workers’ Day is a disease while the country is reeling under the weight of the war that has killed, destroyed and displaced millions of Sudanese men and women, led by workers and professionals.
