The Sudanese Journalists Union announced, Monday, its firm rejection of the attack by members of the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) on journalist Azza Era, in the city of Port Sudan, eastern Sudan.
On Sunday, journalist Azza Era was attacked by three gunmen affiliated with the Justice and Equality Movement, led by Jibril Ibrahim, in front of the Social Insurance Tower in the “interim capital” of Port Sudan.
The union said, in a statement obtained by Darfur 24, that the gunmen assaulted journalist Azza Ira verbally and physically, under the pretext of standing in the street, and quickly took the key of her private vehicle by force, before terrorising and intimidating her.
The Union declared its complete rejection of this type of horrific violations against male and female journalists, and demanded that the perpetrators of this act be uncovered and brought to justice immediately.
The Sudanese Journalists Union warned the armed movements against unleashing their members against journalists in particular and against defenseless citizens in general.
The union stressed that the efforts of some parties to impose the law of the jungle by exploiting the conditions of war currently taking place in the country will not work, as there must be a reckoning that will come, even if it takes a long time. She stressed that she will not abandon her duties towards her membership inside and outside the country, and she will not hesitate to provide all forms of support, advocacy and assistance. legal for them.
Male and female journalists were subjected to serious violations throughout the war by the parties to the conflict, including killing, arrest, and humiliation.
