Washington , April 25(Darfur 24)
On Wednesday, the United States called on both sides of the conflict in Sudan to immediately stop attacks in the city of El Fasher in North Darfur state.
The US State Department expressed in a statement its alarm at indications of an imminent attack on the city by the Rapid Support Forces and its militias, which could endanger civilians, including hundreds of thousands of displaced people.
It also expressed her alarm at the reported destruction of several villages in western El Fasher by the Rapid Support Forces, as well as “indiscriminate” aerial bombardment and restrictions imposed on humanitarian aid by the Sudanese army.
“The leaders of the Sudanese army, the Rapid Support Forces, and their affiliated militias face a choice between escalating violence and perpetuating the suffering of their people while risking the disintegration of their country, or halting attacks, allowing unimpeded humanitarian access, and preparing in good faith for negotiations to end this war and return power to the people of Sudan,” ministry spokesman Matthew Miller wrote. “.
The Rapid Support Forces tightened the siege they imposed on the city of El Fasher, North Darfur, by mobilizing hundreds of new fighters on the outskirts of the city.
Informed sources told “Darfur 24” that thousands of fighters moved towards the city of El Fasher from various locations in the region to tighten control and besiege the only city where the army garrison is located in Darfur.
The Sudanese army and armed movement forces strengthened their defenses south of the Zamzam camp for displaced persons, and a number of cars were seen being pushed and trenches dug around the city in an attempt to prevent the Rapid Support Forces from entering the city from the south.
Sudanese army warplanes provided the army garrison in the city of El Fasher with supplies last week and this week.
According to a Sudanese army source in the city of El Fasher who preferred to withhold his identity, Darfur 24 said that the supply consisted of ammunition for cannons and mortars, attack and reconnaissance drones, elite special forces, and experts in the field of drones.
