New York , April 20(Darfur 24)
Director of Operations at the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, Edem Wosorno, said that the violence in North Darfur state poses an immediate danger to the 800,000 civilians residing in El Fasher.

Briefing the UN Security Council, on April 13, she said militias affiliated with the Rapid Support Forces(RSF) attacked villages west of the city of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State, and burned them.

The senior UN official also referred to clashes in the eastern and northern parts of El Fasher, which led to the displacement of more than 36 thousand people.

Wosorno said the violence in El Fasher threatens to spark more violence in other parts of Darfur, where 9 million people are in dire need of humanitarian aid.

She called on all parties to immediately stop the violence in El Fasher and other places in Sudan.

The Rapid Support Forces are trying to control El Fasher after taking control of some areas of North Darfur, including Melit, but are meeting fierce resistance from the army and the Darfur armed movements allied with it.
