El Daein , March 15 (Darfur 24)
Ismail Yaqoub Hamed, official of the Sudanese Merchants Chamber of Commerce in the city of Aweil, South Sudan, said that the South Sudanese authorities have prevented the crossing of commercial trucks since last Saturday, which led to their accumulation on the border between the two countries opposite the Darfur region.
Ismail told “Darfur 24” that the authorities stopped 30 trucks in the “Gogrial” area before crossing the border last Friday, without giving any reasons until now.
He described that more than 100 trucks and tractors carrying large quantities of flour, sugar, juices, fuel, biscuits and fuel were stopped in the Gogrial area of South Sudan, opposite the Al-Ruqaybat area on the Sudanese side. Yacoub added, “The officials refused to give any reasons, but we did not stop communicating with the Ministry of Commerce to discuss the fate of the goods that might be damaged.”
Hamed revealed that the authorities there allowed commercial trucks coming from Sudan to cross into the territory of South Sudan.
Trader Adam Mohamed Hassan confirmed to Darfur 24 that the movement of commercial trucks towards Sudan was prohibited, and said that his truck carrying more than 100 sacks of sugar and other goods heading to the city of Nyala, the capital of South Darfur, was stopped after it completed clearing its administrative procedures to enter the Sudanese border.
“Darfur 24” was not able to obtain a comment from the government of South Sudan on the reasons for preventing commercial trucks from crossing into Sudan.
