El Fasher, March 8 (Darfur 24) Five people were killed and at least two people were injured following renewed clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces on Thursday evening in the city of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, western Sudan.
A medical source at the Abshuk Health Center northwest of El Fasher told “Darfur 24” that a shell fell in the Naivasha market in the Abshuk camp for displaced people, killing five people and wounding others.
Meanwhile, eyewitnesses from the Ibshuk camp for displaced people said that the Sudanese army attacked a number of vehicles with rapid support sites north of the city, near Souq Al-Kabir.
The city of El Fasher is experiencing a state of tension after last February witnessed six confrontations between the two sides, leaving dozens dead and wounded.
What is noteworthy is the renewal of clashes on Thursday between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, in the city of El Fasher, for the second time in a week.
The “Darfur 24” correspondent said that the clashes took place at the entrance to the city of El Fasher from the northern side, at the Mellit Gate, when the army attacked the Rapid Support Forces, confirming that the two sides exchanged violent artillery shelling during the clashes.
Last Thursday, three civilians, including a child, were injured during renewed clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, according to what a medical source told Darfur 24.
Last February, the city of El Fasher witnessed more than 6 direct clashes between the two sides, as Sudanese army warplanes launched more than 5 air strikes on El Fasher during the month of February.
