Cairo, Feb 15(Darfur 24)The Coordination of Civil Democratic Forces (CCDF)and the Arab Socialist Baath Party announced today, Wednesday, that they had reached a joint agreement on measures to stop the war and restore the path of civil democratic transition in Sudan.
The two parties revealed in a joint statement that they held a joint meeting in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, yesterday evening, Tuesday, against the backdrop of the invitation presented by “Taqaddum” to meet with the “Original” Baath Party to reflect on the disaster of war, its effects at various levels, and ways to confront it.
The statement said that the meeting discussed the comprehensive crisis in Sudan as a result of the continuation of the war for nearly a year, and the resulting catastrophic humanitarian effects, deliberate and unprecedented destruction of the economy, infrastructure, and societal cohesion, and a threat to the unity of the nation.
The statement stressed the agreement on the necessity of preserving Sudan’s unity, democracy and civil rule, ending the state of multiple armies in favor of one professional national army, launching a comprehensive process for justice and transitional justice, dismantling the structure of the regime of June 30, 1989 and the coup of October 25, 2021, and striving to achieve all the principles and goals raised by the revolution. December.
He stated that the two parties stressed that the war is the greatest existential threat to Sudan in its history, and that stopping it is a top priority to preserve the unity and stability of the country, and to save civilians from the humanitarian catastrophe.
The agreement also emphasized joint field work to mobilize the national will to stop the war, combat racist and hate speech, and engage in initiatives seeking to alleviate the humanitarian crisis.
The statement called for an immediate end to the war without any preconditions and respect for international humanitarian law, to stop depriving civilians of their lives, property and freedoms, to allow the flow of humanitarian aid and to stop destroying public and private facilities.
The statement condemned the violations committed by both sides of the war and called on them to stop them, stressing the need to investigate and hold accountable the crimes committed by both sides. It also condemned the cutting off of communications services, demanding their return to all states of Sudan without restriction or condition.
The meeting approved the formation of a joint working group to complete the dialogue, and the necessity of coordinating and unifying the efforts of all civil forces in order to reach the broadest civil front to stop the war, address the humanitarian catastrophe, and restore the path of democratic civil transformation.
Last January, the “Coordination of Civilian Democratic Forces” sent letters to a number of political forces and armed movements, requesting that direct and urgent meetings be held to discuss ways to stop and end the war and build a broader civil democratic front that addresses this mission.
The letters were sent to the “Sudan People’s Liberation Movement” led by Abdul Aziz al-Hilu, the “Sudan Liberation Army” movement led by Abdul Wahid Muhammad Nour, the “Sudanese Communist Party,” and the “Arab Socialist Baath Party” (original).
At the beginning of January, the “Taqadum” coordination signed a joint declaration in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, with the commander of the Rapid Support Forces, in which Hemedti expressed his readiness to immediately stop hostilities, while the “Taqadum” forces are working to reach out to the army commanders to adhere to the same procedures.
